Spec wise the car is more close to 2100 lbs than 2400 lbs, and the VVTi engine has a wider powerband than a Miata, so it's actually a good deal quicker. The Miata catches up in the turns since they're reasonably equivalent in handling but it's easier to steer the Miata with the throttle.
