i just quit maxtor a month ago and almost got a job at seagate...oh the irony  all of my old coworkers think i knew about it and escaped

Maxtor was the best. Other companies gave you 5 or 10 year warrenties. Maxtor had lifetime. I found a maxtor hd that had been dropped. We got it from my dads old company a long time ago. Maxtor gave us a new one, no questions asked.

key word: had lifetime warranties. maxtor used to be pretty good, but they stopped the lifetime warranties around the time that their drives started sucking. a lot of companies did that, really. now, unless you get a retail SCSI hard drive, or can get certain models OEM (eg, not-retail), you get a one year warranty.

read the fine print on seagate's warranty. it's based on a sliding scale.

seagate's external drives dont have 5 year warranties either. however their retail internal drives do. know the facts.
