Default How to ship tires and wheels?

When I bought my Del Sol it came with some very nice 18" Exel wheels that I took off and I'm going to sell (help pay off the car, replaced with 14" wheels). How do I go about shipping 4 wheels with tires? What's the cheapest way? They weigh maybe 40lbs a piece. If I put each in it's own 2'x2'x2' box shipping would be almost $200. Is that normal? What about freighting them? Any other tips? Thanks for the help.

PM me if you might be interested in the wheels. I have pics (they are the ones in my avatar, btw). They'll be going on eBay sometime, unless I get an offer I like.

You should actually weigh them; I really don't think they should be 40lbs/each.

Go to your local tire/rim shop and see if they have any boxes that your wheels could fit in. The last time I got rid of a set of rims, I went and found four boxes in the shops' recycling bin. Once you've got boxes for them, get them weighed. Then shop around for prices from different couriers and see who has the best deal. Prices can vary for long distances so use a 'ship to' zipcode that is furthest from your location in the US. That way you'll have a good idea of a worst case scenario price.

Buyer should end up paying for shipping anyways h:
...but find your buyer a good shipping price

Thanks for the info. I might go dumpster diving for some boxes at nearby shops, else I might just ask them for some boxes.

Even though I'm not paying for it, I don't want to discourage bidders by making them pay so much for shipping.

Well, I did ask them, and they said to check the bin and take what I want. I recommend asking first so they aren't suspicious of you

When we bought wheels for our car(My parents car) the shipping was about 150-200 for all 4 wheels. We bought them off ebay.
