You should actually weigh them; I really don't think they should be 40lbs/each.
Go to your local tire/rim shop and see if they have any boxes that your wheels could fit in. The last time I got rid of a set of rims, I went and found four boxes in the shops' recycling bin. Once you've got boxes for them, get them weighed. Then shop around for prices from different couriers and see who has the best deal. Prices can vary for long distances so use a 'ship to' zipcode that is furthest from your location in the US. That way you'll have a good idea of a worst case scenario price.
