all ipods are made with the same materials.

the black ones are gonna show more scratches, just like a black car does.

You have to be careful even with the little cloth because if you get the tiniest grit on it scratches will occur.

I put scotch tape over all the scratchy areas and its working fine...ghetto...yes...effective...indeedq

Because apple decided it wanted to screw as much money out of people and not offer a decent hardness plastic that would better resist scratching.

:yes:

there's a class action suit about this too. Apple chose plastic that was butter soft to help cross sell accessories.

only cotton and microfiber won't scratch the surface (and maybe some other natural fibers). even a little bit of synthetic fabric content in the cloth, like elastic thread, will lead to some light scratching. same thing happened to my ipod...

unless you use a really good case from the moment you take the ipod out of its packaging, it'll get scratched. there's almost no way around it
