I uesed a crossover cable to connect my two desktops together and it was a bitch. All I wanted it to do was share files but the first 50 times I ran setup all I could get it to do was to share the internet. Then I formatted one of the computers and now the file sharing works (what I want) and the internet sharing doesn't work anymore. I'm not sure what is up with them but windows doesn't seem to like you using them.

no connection means that the computer was unable to get an IP from the other end and its just using a private 169.254.x.x IP.

Try using the network setup wizard, or set the IPs manually and try to browse one computer from the other by going to \\iphere

if you are on a router then you do not use a crossover
a crossover is nic to nic
otherwise you use a straight thru cable from nic to router
and then you have to share the folders you want to share in windows on each machine

you are be needing DHCP! You must contact Cisco and get a PIX firewall. Then contact Level3 and get thar T3 installed to yar basement. Don't forget to confrence in APC and get them shits a battery backup, don't want your sweet pipe going down cause some dead beat had too many shots and took out a pole.

You need to be using a static IP setup.

set computer #1 IP to 10.0.0.100
set the netmask to 255.255.255.0
gateway to 10.0.0.1
and leave the rest

set computer #2 IP to 10.0.0.101
set the netmask to 255.255.255.0
gateway to 10.0.0.1
and leave the rest

plug in cable and eh voila oh and make sure you File and Printer sharing setup.
