Should I run the Cable/DVR Box right to the VCR/DVD Box and run that into the receiver then run the video out into the TV?

How should I wire this and what can give the best quality (s video, opitcal audio, composite video, etc.)? Please not we don't have HD cable yet so no HDMI option.
heres what i have

dvd/ht svideo to tv (changing to component soon)
computer to ht receiver
gamecube to system selector to rca inputs on tv (when i change dvd to component i change system selector to svideo

anyone know if hdmi > component or if it's even worth it?

Gamestop sells a component video selector box for $19.99, it also has LAN connections, works great for me. 3 component hook-ups in the back and 1 S-A/V on the front covered by a false panel. They don't seem to have the one I got on their website, but I picked it up in store, brand new for $19.99.

alright...i bought 1 fiber optic cable and hooked it from the dvd to the receiver, and a digital coax from the dvr/cable box to the receiver

i'm going to hook the videos straight to the plasma and bypass any possible interference from running it into several other items

from what i read hdmi is the better than everything else but not sure why...it is a new standard that is only needed if you run hdtv (and the bandwidth it requires)

(basically) the only difference between DVI and HDMI is that the latter also carries the audio signal.
