The guy that said the tires would burn up is overanalyzing too. Even if you aren't overanalyzing, there are planes that take off well under 200mph and there are tires that are rated well over twice that. This is a really simple problem and the plane wont stay still. The problem is written to make you believe that it would. Did you read my examples with the rocket above? I think I explained really well why the plane would fly. I'm really disappointed in the people who think it won't.

For the THIRD TIME, I'll repaste the problem so you can read it...

"A plane is standing on runway that can move (some sort of band conveyer). The plane moves in one direction, while the conveyer moves in the opposite direction. This conveyer has a control system that tracks the plane speed and tunes the speed of the conveyer to be exactly the same (but in opposite direction).

The question is:

Will the plane take off or not? Will it be able to run up and take off?"

NOWHERE does the problem say that the plane will stay in one place! The problem asks you to decide if it will stay in one place!!

Once again... I'm very disapointed in the people who think the plane won't fly. And to think, you are the same guys I ask for help to fix my car. :slap:
my friend is the engineer...his dad is a pilot.
i dont know how he can be not a smart engineer when he works at lockheed martin :eh: ...i'd be scared about our defense if they hired stupid engineers h:

Have you ever flown in a plane before? Do you remember how the plane throws you back in the seat at take off? Even with a full load of dumb asses and thier luggage on board? Don't you think all that power could make the wheels turn faster than the runway is pushing and take off? Sit calmly and read my arguments (the two long ones) and read the problem.

Have you ever been on a people mover (one of those flat escalators like at the airport)? Lets say you are walking againts it and you are holding a cannon. Fire the cannon behind you and I guarantee it'll knock you on your face.

The engines that suck air from in front of the plane and push it behind the plane don't really give a crap about its wheel speed.
yup.. stupid... why the fuck do you think you so right? tell dumbass what make a plane flight? the speed? it the lift generated but the flow of air on the wings. it the plane is stationary on the belt no lift is generated and therefor the plane wont take off. that why they have WIND TUNELS to test aerodynamics to plane, car and shit! you really need to shut the fuck up

not all engineers are smart in same ways. A mechanical engineer will not know as much about software as software engineer. Don't assume all engineers know everything about anything.

You'd be surprised....I vowed never to fly in a plane designed after 2003 because I had classes with many of the people who will be designing them.... h:

the wheels spinning have nothing to do with a plane taking off. the plane has tp move forward. think about planes that land in water

check my post above. Exactly correct. This has nothing to do with wheels

maybe if I help explain it in 2 parts.

1st. Lets look at the wheels and the conveyor. As the plane moves forward the conveyor moves backwards. Thus negating any movement the plane makes. So if the plane moves or not, the wheels do, esentally nothing.

2nd. With the wheels doing nothing, all we have left to look at is the planes engines making thrust. They do that just fine because they push off the air, not the runway. So with the wheels doing nothing, or something (it doesn't matter) it will still move forward and thus be able to take off.

a plane does not rely on thrust to flight... but on lift.

Don't you think all that power could make the wheels turn faster than the runway is pushing fruitlessly against if, and take off? Sit calmly and read my arguments (the two long ones) and read the problem. I believe with all my heart that the plane will take off, If it was unloaded and had minimum fuel on board, it would take off even faster.

Lift is generated as long as the plane can move forward. That's where the thrust comes in.
