i think they made the smart wood series in 98 or 99, so it's not old. its really thin and lightweight for a gibson. cost like $800 even used

the price may have gone up a little, but you can find the BC Rich bronze series for around $150 pretty easily. if not their regular price, guitar center will have it for around $150 extremely frequently. they're always playing games like that, and i've seen it dozens of times. their "sales" are typically just different color price tags and annoying radio spots.
but if you like the guitar and it doesn't fall apart, then great. it's a good deal. i'm just sharing some first hand experience.
