How many dead/stuck pixels on your LCD.
zero on my 20" dell at home
zero on a 17" LG at work
try rubbing the area with the dead pixel a little. don't rub it too hard. sometimes that can help to fix dead or stuck pixels.
you're right that most manufacturers have dead pixel replacement rules. it's like a manufacturing tolerance. they statistically expect a certain range of dead pixels, but they're getting better. samsung initiated a no-dead-pixel policy earlier this year, and it looks like a lot of people here have had zero dead pixels with their LCDs

One on my IBM 15" laptop screen, not bad considering it is on the far left of the screen in an unimportant location and the thing is a year in my ownership and 6 months in someone elses.
