zero on my 20" dell at home
zero on a 17" LG at work

try rubbing the area with the dead pixel a little. don't rub it too hard. sometimes that can help to fix dead or stuck pixels.

you're right that most manufacturers have dead pixel replacement rules. it's like a manufacturing tolerance. they statistically expect a certain range of dead pixels, but they're getting better. samsung initiated a no-dead-pixel policy earlier this year, and it looks like a lot of people here have had zero dead pixels with their LCDs
