Default No keyboard or keyboard error... crap

One of my desktops is throwing the "no keyboard" error in the bios... no problem, right? Swap keyboards! (Windows 98SE)

I connect the keyboard to this computer, works perfectly. (Mandrake 9.1)

Am I looking at a total motherboard meltdown? That was my server computer with a 120 gig secondary hard drive full of important stuff... anyone know if I can plug it (the hard drive) into my linux box and have it work right off?

I'm assuming you're using a USB mouse but a PS2 keyboard. If so, plug the keyboard into the PS2 slot designated for a mouse. Your port could be bad or is going bad.

Nope, serial port mouse... 'old school' from 386 days. h:

I swapped boards, but for some reason must not have tried the other PS2 plug. The spare keyboard on the second PS2 boots and works. I guess I'll have to open it up and check it out, since the keyboards don't even 'power up' on the other PS2.

Thanks guys.

most likely its just ur motherboard. U can still put ur harddrives into another computer. U can get motherboards for pretty cheap.
