Map goes missing and Tundra gets drilled

He said he was distraught when he learned of the loss. In its place in the original nook, he said, he found a new, folded piece of foam board similar to the old one - but with no map attached.

I guess I'm supposed to defend President Bush and what pretroleum does for our way of life now. But screw that.
I think this just goes to show that drilling has become an unstoppable force in our world.

The issue, for me at least, is no so much the drilling of the tundra (although, as Epoch pointed out. there environmental impact). The issue is that the map was clearly compromised to allow this drilling to occur. So yes, I would like to know why this map not only went missing, but ended up being replaced by a decoy.

Well, that was a poor analogy. Food can be replenished. These natural resources aren't exactly replenishable, or at least not in our life time. Also, like someone mentioned, a lot of this land is in the permafrost zone. What will we let loose on our already fragile and poluted air?
Drilling for oil in protected land has many consquences. I just hope our government will take an appropriate stance on this issue. An example would be the wetlands and preserved areas in Southern CA. Developement proceeded to create toll roads and housing projects. The wildlife there took a big hit since the wetlands dried up and most of the natural habitat were invaded.
