Well, that was a poor analogy. Food can be replenished. These natural resources aren't exactly replenishable, or at least not in our life time. Also, like someone mentioned, a lot of this land is in the permafrost zone. What will we let loose on our already fragile and poluted air?

Drilling for oil in protected land has many consquences. I just hope our government will take an appropriate stance on this issue. An example would be the wetlands and preserved areas in Southern CA. Developement proceeded to create toll roads and housing projects. The wildlife there took a big hit since the wetlands dried up and most of the natural habitat were invaded.
