You're right...but they wanted to enhance their marketability towards sponsors. These days, you watch a Reebok commercial with Iverson, and he dresses like he always dresses.

you bring up a good point. now that i think about it, jordan did wear "air jordan" gear a lot outside of the court. but he still looked like a pro instead of a thug.

LOL. My point exactly. But even in general, if a guy has a bad character, he's gonna have one in a suit or in a throwback, it makes no difference. What's next? Are the sponsors gonna say "ya know Stern, your players sound too......black. It's really hurting our image by being associated with your million dollar thugs, unless you make them speak like Bryant Gumbel, we're gonna have to sever ties with your league."

Hip Hop is not music, Hip Hop is a culture. It is best summed up by KRS-ONE, who said "Rap is something you do, Hip Hop is something you live"

I don't remember Iverson wearing a chain during games, did MJ?

 stern is a fucking asshole.

This superstar mentality created by the NBA further drives the common person away from the sport. Let's look at the facts ...

These players get paid millions to play a game.
I get paid 5 figures to do something I hate.

These players can go to work looking how ever they want.
I have to wear clothes that aren't the most comfortable to look professional.

but they bitch and whine about having to wear a suit? Come on. If you don't like the dress code, nobody is begging you to work for them.

If this truly effects who they are and is such a huge injustice to their character ... I want to see someone so offended, they leave it all behind. Do that, and you got my respect.
hnoes: they have an easier life than you no one is allowed to have an easier life than you!!~!

God forbid some grown men put on some prefessional clothes for one day out of the week. Not to mention they get paid hundreds of thoudands if not millions of dollars.

I have to follow a dress code 100% of the time wether I am at work or not and I get paid a fraction of that. Tell them to stop whining... bitches.

I think the dresscode is a good thing. If you're on the court and not playing you should wear either: a uniform or be dressed in a professional manner. I don't see how any issues should arise from that.

This rule should have been implemented a LONG time ago.

E3Nine, go bury your head in the ground with fire ants. If you can't handle the fact that the Hip Hop culture has pretty much influenced every aspect of life, from the media, to entertainment, to one's lifestyle then re-read the first sentence of this paragraph.

Who are you reffering to, when you say "them" ? Because not all NBA players feel the same way. A majority believe it's a good thing.

I think you should stop whining because you're a broke bastard and they're gettin paid to do what they love.

I don't know I just skimmed the paragraph. And I'm not whining. The government just doesn't seem to pay people enough that put their lives on the line for their country yet some guys that are good at basketball get paid millions and sacrifice nothing. Hence my subtle bitterness. I know I voulenteered though, but damn Uncle Sam, pay me

Damn good article.

There is no reason that they should be able to control what is worn to and from the arena. What they wear on the court is 1 thing and i have no problem with a dress code there but off the court after the game ends they should have no control
