I am also interested in WWII. Both my grandfather's were at Normandy on D Day. I love watching the shows on the History Channel. I have toured the USS Intrepid a few times as well as West Point.

I majored in History with a European focus, which basically meant I took just about every WWII class the University of Colorado offered. I love that stuff.
I've toured a couple WWII battleships and a couple of submarines, and visited the memorial at Pearl Harbor. One of these days I'd like to trek around Europe and visit some of the battle sites.
You should read "The Forgotten Soldier" by Guy Sajer, it's an autobiography by a German soldier on the Eastern (Russian) front. Man, that's a powerful book. I've read probably a dozen WW2 memoirs, and that is by far the best.

my grandpa was on the USS franklin during ww2, it was kamakazed once and bombed another time. i guess there was a special on the history channel about it. i like listening to the old timers tell stories about that stuff.
yeah, i like listening to old times tell stories about it also. i remember speaking to veterans for a project in a history class. it's unfortunate that our "greatest generation" won't be around much longer though.
any other suggestions for good reads?
