ok i dont know what the problem is. so i go to the closest duane reed to get my perscription filled for zyrtec (allergy medicine). and some how i need a docotor authorization for the perscription. wtf is that about, i got the perscription from the doctor now why do i need another authorization from the doctor to give me what he had written on the perscription. either duane reed is messed up or my insurance. either way i am giving money to someone to give me some pills. i should probably be mad at me insurance company since i pay them every month for coverage.

 

Perhaps the doctor didn't authorize refills.

You probably need a prior authorization from the insurance company because they don't usually cover the medication since it's not in their formulary; due to the fact that there are over the counter allergy medications comparable to the zyrtec. The pharmacy usually calls the dr. and the dr. has to call the insurance company to give the insurance company a reason why you have to take it. And that doesn't mean that it will be covered. The process normally takes a few hours or days. I say try out the claritin over the counter or the generic first to see if it works.

The other option is to call the insurance co. and see what is covered under the insurance and tell the dr. to call that particular medication in.

 

It could be worse. The only way that my insurance will cover my BC is if I do it through mail order, which I was not told until the day before my appointment at the pharmacy, so I had to pay full price for it ($71- for the generic)

 

what bc cost that much for generic?

its pretty far from where i work.

I have actually tried claritan, claritan D, allegra d and zyrtec. it might be a mental thing about it, but the claritin didnt work very well compared to the allegra and zyrtec.

i just called the pharmacists and they said that my insurance company just doesnt feel like paying for zyrtec cause its expensive. something like this happened last time when i was trying to get allegra. why wont they pay for that, i pay them every month, not like i am sick or have allergetic reactions every month.

 

see if your ins has mail order.... my dad gets 2 or 3 month supplies of allegra for cheap

 

Does your insurance cover clarinex, if not they don't want to cover any allergy medicines at all. YOu're shafted I guess.
