Depending on the size of her hand/finger that size may be perfect and anything bigger may be too big. How big are her fingers?
Besides not all women like huge stones and are superficial.

I used to work at a jewlery store and saw this stuff all the time. As long as you both agree and she knows then it's great! Especially if you getting a home. Nowadays the guy will even only get the ban he wants then goes to the jewlery store to buy the center stone together. This usually works out the best. That way she is still supprised and she gets to get the cut she wants and you can both decide on what's affordable. And who knows, she might be the type of girl who does not like bigger stones on thier finger. I've seen that too. Couples come in to trade the stone for a smaller one just cause the female did not like the look of the stone size for her finger. Good luck all in all though.

By the way, I think the ring is very nice. The style is a great engagement ring. Nice and elegant but also clean and simple. Not gaudy. My suggestment on the center stone would be 1/3 ct to 1 ct.
