I have virus protection and run it weekly. Haven't found anything for a long time but it's definitley a better safe than sorry item to have.
Spyware cleaner...meh...you have to have so many of those programs to get an effective cleaning it is annoying. I DL them once a month or so and run a thorough sweep then delete the programs when I am done.

it doesnt hurt... run it once a month and you should be good.

Better safe than sorry regarding the virus programs.
As for spyware...I run it once a day. Its not that hardh: As for effectively removing all of them, I just use Ad-Aware. It may not remove everything, but whatever (if any) is left on my computer, it doesnt hinder my computer useage to be annoying h:
