FEMA - Still not prepared for evacuations?
Im listening to the morning radio this A.M and I heard that people that are evacuating the coastal areas of Texas are sitting in 6 + hours of traffic and running low on gas.
Exiting the freeways to the nearest gas station surprises them when gas stations are either extremely full or just out of Gas.
Now the mayor is going to have gasoline tankers dispatched to those areas to re-fuel the passengers?

I believe it. Yesterday there were reports of people sitting in 14hours of traffic and only getting 48 miles. The South bound lanes looked clear as day, I would have found a way over and reached speeds higher than Rita's wind.
what does this have to do with FEMA? those highways can only support so much. some of these cities get bad enough during plain ole' rush hour traffic, not imagine when THE ENTIRE F'IN CITY is on the road..

:slap: This isnt plain ole' rush hour traffic. Its a CITY being evacuated so everyone is LEAVING the city.
Which means Southbound traffic lanes should be opened to Northbound traffic.
FEMA works with the local city officals during evacuations.

yesterday some lady was n traffic for 8hrs and only move 10mile then she turn back and is probably did the right thing because either way u will run out of gas.
when there is a mandatory evacuation every road should be open to get away from there, from what it looks alot of ppl are going to be stuck n traffic when the hurricane hit i guess a H2 will be useful but u better hope there is a truck full of gas just for u.
how about that cheese bus that got on fire because the brakes overheated?

Just goes to show that no one is prepared for this.
Chances are these people will be stuck on the road when the storm hits.
Not to mention they'll be tanker trucks full of gasoline too. Which will ease these motorists.
i fail to see how this is the fault of FEMA.
i do, however see serious fault in how state and local government and law enforcement has some room for improvement. FEMA doesn't control the roads. state and local government does.

Prepared - To make ready beforehand for a specific purpose
If they were ready do you think people would be sitting in traffic for all this time and only driving 6 miles while running out of gas etc....... :slap:

FEMA works with local officals to evacuate the city. That I know.
