project colt
Are you gonna swap in the dsm trans or keep the CSM trans? The CSM trans will not last long with any type of power, neither will the dsm trans but it will be better than the stock 1.5L tranny. I think a buddy of mine got colt turbo axles for his 10sec colt from carparts.com for like $40 or something. 12s for less than $2000? That's doable with tire and a good driver and a good tune. What parts are you lookin at throwing on there?
I'm using the DSM trans. It might have high miles, but was female-owned for 125,000 miles, and is grind-free. Shifts like butter. The second-owner just put a brand new clutch in it, too. The CSM is an automatic, and I don't know how to drive an auto so it's history. Gotta find a turbo colt brake pedal assembly.
So the turbo colt axles with the equal-length half-shafts fit the '90 DSM tranny no-problemo?
I have a 2g SMIC, a RoadRaceEngineering MBC, shaved 1g intake mani that I was in the process of polishing. All the engine parts on the Laser are in great shape, just filthy because they've never been washed. I have a shed full of parts from the GSX rebuild that I know will come in handy somehow. Wish I could use the pistons, but I've heard they'll shatter if you try to press them off the rods.
I'm going to order a complete engine gasket kit, rings, bearings, ARP's and a timing belt kit. It will easily hold 24 PSI like that, but I'm only aiming for a 19 PSI pump-gas tune. It will probably cost me about $450 to rebuild.
At first I'll probably just port/polish the hell out of the 14b and rebuild it, because a 210hp/2100lb car shouldn't have any trouble getting into the 12's. But I'll eventually move the whole turbo setup on the GSX that put down 324awhp over to the Colt (FREEBIE). I run 12.67-12.73 on the GSX's setup and it's 1400lbs heavier than the Colt. Probably potential for 350 on a FWD if I can get a decent intercooler. If I do that, this thing might get frightening. I plan on daily-driving it, so I don't want to go overboard and make it un-driveable. The 16g spools fast enough that I could run it at about 14 PSI and still comfortably have a blast. I can turn it up on track day. I want to see what it will do with the 14b first.
I just DSMlinked the GSX and the Jumptronix A/F meter is useless now that I can log my o2 sensor. I'm looking to replace the Greddy 60mm electronic gauges in the GSX with something smaller and more tasteful, so the A/F, EGT, and Boost gauges will be freebies as well.

Okay. New video. I gutted the Laser.

2 bad colds, a wedding, breaking up with the gf of 4 years, rain and vehicle problems kept me from getting around to this any faster. I should have lots of free time now, and the motor's in my shed, so it looks like things should be moving right along. I'm hoping to get it buttoned up by the middle of January.
