Default itunes 5

if you use itunes, i highly recommend you upgrade. atleast for me, it's considerably faster, and looks better. they also tweaked the random feature now called Smart Shuffle which lets you set how likely you are to hear multiple songs in a row by the same artist or from the same album.

you must not have an ipod photo, because if you did, you would not feel the same way.

i used winamp for years before itunes came out.

itunes handles my 30,000 songs much better than any other program i've used.

where are you getting that from? apple's website? :eh:

for one thing, RAM usage is not the only thing that affects performance. namely, there's this little thing called the CPU. itunes is a pretty bulky application, and is pretty resource intensive - even on a mac:
http://www.neilturner.me.uk/2005/Apr...ut_itunes.html
http://arstechnica.com/reviews/01q2/...macos-x-4.html

and i have 512mb of ram. it's sluggish as hell in scrolling around for songs and on initial startup. most other functions aren't that bad.

i just installed itunes 5 on my work computer (athlon64 3000+ 2.01Ghz, with 512 MB RAM). no songs, no ipod connected - i haven't even gotten past the license agreement - and it's already using 24.7MB of RAM. then there's also the iTunesHelper that, as you can see, takes up an additional 6MB. edit: not to mention the ipod service that uses up another 3.5MB.
