so i stopped by a target/walmart/kaybee after work. the target had only the latest set of alternators. the walmart had squat. kaybee had like 8 mint G1 reissue sideswipes for $15 each. :eek5: cheap? i almost got one. :happysad:

That Sideswipe was previously released in Canada and Austrailia only. It never, ever made its way into the US until last month. Formerly a TRU exclusive, the finally arrived. Before the KayBee release, he went for $80+ on ebay ... if you could find one.

 

holy crap! makes me wonder if i should get a few and sit on them for a bit.

i just checked kaybee because it was close.. i didn't really expect to find anything. and yeah, those four guys are the ones i saw at target.

by the way, did walmart ever carry alternators? because i'm pretty sure i saw smokescreen alternators there a year or two ago.

Get a few Sideswipes. Once the ebay supply starts drying up, you'll get a pretty penny for one.

That TRU Sideswipe had 1 production run made, about 3,000 (just like the Astrotrain that went on sale today) Although you may see 8 of them, this is it. When eBay auctions run their course and the dust settles, you'll see the price go back up.

Walmart used to carry Alternators. They stopped back in April. The biggest problem with Alternators is their distrbution. You'd get case assortments of 4 ... but these assortments were never dictated by sales, it was always what Hasbro felt like making. This created "shelf warmers" ... Walmart would be PACKED with figures like Swindle (yellow jeep) but never see more than 1 of the hot figures like Jazz.

Walmart said, "fuck it" and will carry Alternators when Hasbro adjusts their replenishment methods. This goes for all Hasbro toys now ... if Walmart sells out of a specific toy in a certain line, Walmart will be able to order a case of that toy only. No more mixed assortments.

Walmart.com keeps place holders for figures, but that's about it ... you'll never see any of those again in a Walmart store ... unless you live in Canada ... where most of those are 8 usd ... but that's a totally different story.

 

ah, that makes sense. and yes, i used to see the same alternators at walmart now that i think about it. always the same guys month after month, and piles of them.

in regards to sideswipe, perhaps i'll pick up a couple tomorrow then.

btw, do you guys think alternator prowl in the fishbowl packaging will be out before christmas? the 1st edition is already bumping up in price on ebay. i'd rather not overpay for an xmas present if there's the slightest risk it won't arrive on time.

 

I doubt the fishbowls will hit before the new year. They're on a boat from China to the states, but they need to make it to a Hasbro DC, then to individual store DCs ... your best shot is a place like Bigbadtoystore.com because they get their case and it goes straight to the public.


How much of a buddy is this guy? For the price eBay is charging, pop an extra $10 and get the all metal Binaltech version in Vivid Blue Pearl or Cop style.
