Because here in modern society outside the confines of Mormonia, people sometimes wait til they're a bit older and more established in life before they actually settle down and get married. :db:

A promise ring on the most basic level is like, "wear this and that way other dudes will see it and think you're engaged and then I won't have to worry so much about them hitting on you."

More frequently it's saying "I intend to marry you but not just yet because I'm broke as a joke and live in my mom's basement so wear this to know that I'm serious about us. I'll change this one out for an engagement ring with a huge rock on it once I've finished my MBA that I've taken out 6 figures of student loans to get and have taken up my position as a junior executive dickhead in training. Or more likely, I'll get something a little bit better than this because I'll still be broke but just not in piles of debt like I am now. Or I'm just a wimp and you were my first poon and I think I want to marry you because I don't know what I'm talking about. Or I'm just this clingy to all my girlfriends."

In either case I hear "promise ring" and I can't help but think the dude's a sissy. Either for worrying about his chick getting hit on so much that he wants her to wear a ring, or for like, planning so far in advance who he's gonna marry that even way before he's ready to think about getting engaged, he's trying to lock it down with the promise ring.

Sorry chuckie. h:

When I was 17 I got my girl a promise ring for Christmas. It had three stones of garnet (her birthstone) symbolizing past, present and future. I went to Kuwait the following year and she cheated on me. Even though it was like 3 years ago, she still wears it even though she's with some other guy. My point is just because a hoe accepts the ring doesn't change her to a non-hoe.

Whatever yo. But just so you know, a person will never be financially secure for marriage regardless. Unless you win the lottery, or are a professional athlete ect....... There is nothing wrong with getting married at a young age anyways. :fawk:

Grifter, I do like the ring though.

Chuck a promise ring? I thought you were in college?

promise ring is dumb in my mind. if you are in a relationship that is secure enough then you don't need a promise ring (which is pretty much meaningless). yeah i know a few people that gave promise rings to their gf, mainly because it was demanded by the gf. i've never given one and I've been with my gf for 10 years.
