OAKLAND
City forces out 2 downtown businesses
Action follows high court ruling on eminent domain

Connecticut isn't the only state acting on this BS ruling by the Supreme Court. California jumped on the bandwagon as well.

with that said... Happy Independance Day

Congress is actually trying to overturn (undermine) the Supreme Courts ruling.

Connecticut (and California) isn't the "only state acting on this BS," Congress is.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...063001082.html

Cliffs Notes:
The House voted yesterday to use the spending power of Congress to undermine a Supreme Court ruling allowing local governments to force the sale of private property for economic development purposes. Key members of the House and Senate vowed to take even broader steps soon.

In the roll call on the House amendment, 192 Republicans voted for and 31 against, with 39 Democrats voting for and 157 against. The lone independent, Rep. Bernie Sanders (Vt.), voted against.

That's right, you heard correctly. Here the House is trying to overturn the obvious bullshit ruling of the Supreme Court on Eminent domain and what happens?

The Democrats vote *Against* overturning the ruling 157 to 39, and the Republicans vote *for* overturning the Supreme Court ruling 192 to 31.

Remember that the next time someone tries to tell you (and I'm not speaking to "you" Blackbacca, just people in general) that Democrats stand for the poor, middle class, and the unpriviledged.

By the way, even with the Democrats trying to stop the House from fixing this pathetic ruling by the Supreme Court, it still passed 231 to 189.

at least someone is trying to do something about this BS. the ruling won't be overturned per se, but it will be effectively nullified as it should've been in the first place.

I agree, that is the important point -- at least it's getting done.

I do think it's important to keep note of who is trying to fight for our rights and who is not in this case though.

They still have the perception that they are the ones for the "little man," because for the longest time... they were.

It surely has changed though, and yeah, it's amazing more people haven't seen it yet.

Quit the partisan bullshit rhetoric already.

This action is reprehensible regardless of your stupid little party line politics. It could just have easily been a Republican judge backing the decision as it was a Dem. It just so happens this is how it fell into being.

All this ruling has done is to prove that corporate money can and will dictate how this country is run and how it's people are treated. The politicians we as the voting population entered into power could give two shits less about the people once they are there, the only time they give a rats ass is during election years so that everyone will forget the crap they pulled the other 2.5 years.

Stupid people and even stupider people who vote on party line politics rather than issue based, you want to blame someone for this decision then blame the idiots who voted these assholes in and then turned a blind eye to what they are doing. Both parties have contributed equally to the steady decline of our rights in more ways than any of you seem to want to acknowledge.

Continue your bickering...you just make yourselves look like more of an idiot every time you post party line rhetoric.

I'm not talking about the judge who backed the ruling.

I'm talking about the fact that when Congress tries to undermine and virtually eliminate the bogus ruling of the Supreme court, the Democrats tried to uphold the current bogus ruling that the Supreme court made.

Whether or not the judge is conservative or liberal matters not, what matters is when Congress tries to rectify a situation that we all agree is messed up, the Democrats try to stand in the way to make sure that the ruling which virtually strips us of true inseperable property rights, stays intact.

That's the problem.

And I find it funny that when this kind of stuff comes back on the Democrats in a negative manner you tell us to quit with the party line the crap; But the instant a Republican mentions God or attempts to support the war in Iraq you're more than willing to spout your distaste for our party.
