Boom CRASH !! WTF
Ok.. our garage door spring just snapped in half while closing. Now what?
I cant seem to get it open, because the remaining spring still has tension in it.. and it broke when the door was 2 inches from being totally closed.. so thats as far as i can open it. The release doesnt do anything, it slams the door shut.. and i cant lift it open
What to do now?
haha- thanks
Sean

yea.. i got it open with the help of a neighbor.
It is roll up.. and its amazing how heavy the door is without the help of 1 of the 2 springs.
We're going to call the home warranty/insurance people.

It is possible to fix that stuff yourself. I know because my brother and I did his, you just have to get a metal rod of the appropriate length and diameter to control the tension on the spring. My bro looked it up on the net, definitely a two man job, but it was very straightforward. Is the spring actually broken, or did the lock nut come loose?

Fixing springs on a garage door is cake. Just make sure you get safety cables for them. If you can't fix a garage spring yourself, then you shouldn't be parking in a garage, hell you shouldn't be driving.
