BMW Suspension... how does BMW do it?
I recently drove a relative's BMW 330i. It was autocraptic, but what struck me was the suspension and steering. I know BMW is famous for this. But can someone explain it relative to Honda? What magic is BMW doing that Honda doesn't, even with aftermarket parts?
Granted the massive 17" rims on 225 rubber helped a lot, but the thing transmitted every bit of the road to my hands while softening the blow. The road feel is there without the harshness. The bastard gripped like no tomorrow yet you didn't feel the lateral G's. The suspension was sports car stiff yet a more comfortable smoother ride than my H&R/KYB "enhanced" Civic.
OK, before I get flamed, no I don't expect my Civic to ever be a 330i. BUT... what specifically is the difference? BMW *IS* still subject to the laws of physics.... AREN'T THEY?!?

good engineering? :dunno:
since I've bought my car, my shocks have been blown, but the car still handles pretty damn good.. better than any other car I've owned, even with aftermarket suspension.
of course, replacing suspension later this summer. :irock:

the fact that its RWD makes a gigantor difference.
then the tires of course.
the steering feedback and feel is awesome.
the body of the car overall is a hell lot more solid feeling than a lightweight japanese car.
the i6 is a f*cking awesome engine with a great smooth torque curve.

I think it is the new chassis in combination w/ the suspension and expensive tires. I've driven many new cars, and old ones for that matter, and the BMWs are def. nice, but many other new cars handle just as well for the same or less $. If you take a brand new civic (with a fresh chassis) and do suspension (Including anti roll bars etc) and put $200/tire sport tires equal in width, you'd be suprized how close they are.
