The threat of getting a stern spanking from my dad when I was little kept me in line.

 

I see no reason why a spanking should be illegal. Like others have said, I received spankings quite often but it never hurt me. It only helped me to understand when I was doing something wrong.

thats the problem with this country. Any form of " spanking " would be considered child abuse. i was spank my kid harder if I ever hear them say " im going to call the cops"..........ohhhh man......i cant wait till my kids are disobiediant to me.

my parents whooped my a$$ when I was younger and used to mess up. They shaped me to be the person I am today.... I luv u mom and dad.

 

As long as it isn't abuse, spanking can be a fairly effective form of discipline for a young child. Its called negative reinforcement, and its okay under limited circumstances. The very instant a child is old enough to understand why they did something wrong, instead of merely associating it with a spanking, they should be taught instead of spanked.

"spankings" and other forms of corporal punishment are necessary tools to teach children consequences to bad/wrong actions & decisions. many kids growing up nowadays are not learning what consequence they can get because of their decisions.

 

not spanking a kid will result in someone being more fuged up than if they are over abused IMHO, because a kid that never got spanked will prolly be as lost yet no one has any mercy for them

Bullshit. You do not learn anything from spanking besides fear of the person spanking. Remove that person from the room or line of sight and the consequences are removed. It is fairly ineffective with shaping behavior 100% of the time.

This law is completely stupid though. Let people raise their kids how they want to be raised.

 

it may not "program" a kid, but if the kid's got a brain it is an effective way of getting a message across.
