That about explains it all in a vague sort of way.

Sure the name will add some to the price. But they were expensive before they were a big name. Alienware has great systems, speeds are excellent.

Very far and above anything, most of the systems price comes from the high end parts they use. They test them for speed and compatability very thoroughly before making it an avaliable to buy system.

So what makes em good? 2 things. Good parts and people that know how to put good parts to good use.

I've worked on a few Alienware systems, very well put together and quality. If I decided for some strange reason not to build my own computer (which I have always built my own) I would probalbly buy an Alienware.

I worked on one (the same one) quite a few times at my old work. Everything is laid out really nice inside, neat and tucked away.

In this particular case, this kid bought an Alienware pc from Best Buy when they were selling them and purchased a service plan.

I remember replacing the drives at least 3 times in that thing...but other than that it had an asus a7n8x-e board, 2gb of ram...it was pretty built.

On another note, i hate their cases, i dislike plasticy cartoonish pc cases.

I prefer Lian-Li above anything when it comes to assembling pc's.

Here's mine:
Lian Li 6077...constructed entirely of Aluminum

too bad Lian Li cases are so ridiculously expensive...

a number of other vendors make all aluminum cases now. lian li might still take them in quality, but they're still not worth the price...

ive heard that they use and configure the best parts to make it run top notch and most efficient. so even if one were to put together similiar parts, still wouldnt be as fast as the alienwares because theirs are "tuned"

i think it is probably more software and R&D that they put into the comps cuz look how expensive that shit is.

the parts of each comp only come to like 1/2 of the price of these computers.

maybe they overclock them but dont tell you about it h: idk though...
