Make sure you have time to play with the kitten. The more attention they get while they're young the more friendly they will be.
Get some older blankets and make the kitten a bed
Make sure the kitten gets it's shots.
Get it spayed/neutered unless you want it to go crazy during mating season. Male cats are more likely to spray and female cats will bleed just like humans females if not spayed/neutered.

Invest in a small steam cleaner because the cat will take a leak on your carpet. Cat urine odor is almost impossible to get rid of.

The first time it sprays while in heat, you'll be on the phone to your vet. Guaranteed. There's no stink in the world like it, and you'll never get it out of whatever they sprayed on. Get it neutered at around 5-6 months, before the first heat. You'll be glad you did, and the little guy will be a better pet. BTW, now they can neuter male cats without removing the testicles.

The first time you put him in the litter box, take his front paws and drag them through the litter material a few times. They'll get the hint. Their mom toilet-trains them, but this way you're showing them exactly where they should go, and 99 times out of 100 they'll get the hint right away.

 

What everyone else said. Cats will be however you raise them to be. I fyou show them a lot of attention and let them know who is boss they will be awesome companions. I have a male and a female and have had them since they were about 2months old. They are the coolest cats in town. i swear anyone who meets them wants to take them home. Its all b/c I showed them some attention and didn't do mean shit to them. Oh and the water pistol is a good idea but only works if you can do it 24 hours a day for abit. I am not home mon-fri from 8-5 and tried to train them this way. Didn't work

 

I think 4 weeks is a little young, I would wait two more weeks. but that's just me.
