the funny thing is how right our parents were about Mtv.

But think of it this way: if it wasn't for Mtv, we wouldn't have reality Tv (thanks realworld )

but is that a good thing?

I do not watch MTV. I think it is full of sexism, and graphic depictions of women.

just wish cable companies would be providing more music channels as mainstream channels in their lineups

MuchMusic, MTV 2, TheBox, Channel V, etc etc etc

Nope. The only thing i watch is The Learning channel, and i hardly even watch that. I have better things to do than to sit glued to a television all day.

you guys are right, but still missing the big picture. schools now have been dumbing down america, but how? liberals of the 60's realized how impressionable young minds are, so they invaded the media and schooling. they drive kids to become irresponsible before they even have a chance at becoming responsible. they do this because they know irresponsible people can not take care of themselves, and must have someone to depend off of. that is where the government steps in with its welfare and socialistic programs, and that is how liberals gain and hold control.

so just as long as someone needs to depend on others, liberals will be there with their hand out, giving money. because everyone should know, if you give money to someone, you gain power over them, because they are indebted to you.

I agree with you that there has been a "dumbing down of America", but then pop culture has never been about content or quality but rather about making the sale.

If they dressed conservative no one would talk about them and it would never pique anyones interest to see what they are about. How they sell albums blows me away, let alone get VMA award nominations.

The media has always been there in one way or another to spoon feed its views to the masses so this is nothing new, but, the amount it has increased is something new.

People in general are exposed to so much more in a short period of time now. 20 years ago you got the same amount of information in a lifetime as you can pick up in 10 years of life now. Media is no lnger the local paper or the local tv station but rather a satellite based program from halfway across the world.

Global influence is stronger than ever which is great, but people fail to realize that if you use the TV as your babysitter then there is no one to blame but yourself in the end for how things progress.....don't try to blame socialism or commercialism for the nation or the worlds ills....that is just irresponsible.
