yea, your job with your school is pretty much the same as many sales jobs and you have other sales experience. That'll definitely be a plus for you, since you have a better understanding of how to read people and how to control situations.

With the general public you're not necessarily giving them something they need or want in exchange for their money. Plus they have to part with their own money and take their own time to talk to you. So they always have a lot of baggage and always think you're out to screw them. Aside from that, there's no filter to keep out the bitches, assholes, jerks, psychos, nutcases, and people that no hablo ingles.
Me, I give them something they definitely don't "need" but probably do want and can pretend they need, they're not spending their own money to get it, and they're at work when I talk to them so I'm only taking up their company's time. Plus to make your way up the corporate ladder to something like VP of Sales and become one of my clients, a person would have to be at least sort of decent or something.
For me, it's a step up.
