True the manual is more fun to drive because of the control factor but performance wise, if you drop a shift kit in and a new torque convertor you are going to eat a manual for lunch 9 times out of 10.

In their 8 cyl it is reverse and the autos are actually stronger than their manuals. The only time you go manual on them is if you are diesel and towing a lot then you get a far stronger tranny anyways. But the gas pusher manuals tend to have a failure in the slave cylinder of the hydro clutch and occasionally after a while the pressure foot on them snaps. I am pretty sure they have fixed that design flaw but it still doesn't end the fast wearing clutch situation from under gearing the axle and tranny combo

If you blow a head gasket you may as well replace the motor because the heads instantly warp and its about a $1500 bill to fix it. Their trannies have an odd shift point that puts a lot of stress on the drive train which causes all kinds of issues. If you go under and adjust the shift point its a lot easier on it but then the head gasket is guaranteed to blow around 80 - 100k anyways and who does a head gasket as preventative maintenence?
