And the last air-cooled Bug was built in Puebla, México...in the summer of 2003.
Just a few hundred feet away from where the New Beetle line operates..

Yep it was the last of the Super Beetles (still not a Bug).

Bugs ran up until 1970 then after that it was all Super Beetles using a redesigned front end, big tail lights, 1600cc air cooled motor, Strut front suspension, and independent rear. Once the Beetle rolled off the line VW had made the biggest mistake they ever could have made with that line of vehicles The Type 1 was officially dead.

Not crying it had its day and I still love Bugs. In fact I have owned every year bug from 54-68 and modded every one of them. I even had a 58 that ran high 10s for a while....man I miss that thing
