Default Could I get a job?

Do you think it's even possible for a 16 year old to get a job at a car dealership (or a garage)? I mean like a crack-ass little dirt cheap job, fit for an optimistic inoccent little kid that dosn't mind doing those things. I would love to get a job in the service department of a car dealership, even if it involves simply washing the used cars on friday night so they look good for customers on saterday.

I know a few of you work around cars for a living - have you ever seen this happen? A person younger than 18 actually working in a car dealership.

There's like 18 dealerships in my town, and about 15 more garages (midas/jiffy lube places) around here. I figure one of them has got to have some odd jobs laying around that need doing. I've also talked to a close family friend who's a car salesman, and he said he'll make some calls.

When I was 16 I had a job at a car dealership filing service repair orders and deal jackets. Incredibly boring stuff, but a few years later I applied for a job at a BMW dealership and got it. Well worth it, I'd say.

I'm glad to hear that, sounds like just what I'm looking for. How'd you go about getting that job? Just strait up walk in and fill out a normal application? Seems to me that they would dismiss such an attempt, but it could work I guess.

When I was 16, I simply filled out an application and dropped it off. I'm sure that I used a typewriter to fill it out, rather than handwrite it. It seems like a little thing, but that kind of attention to detail makes a big difference. That summer I worked at that Dodge dealership 6 hours a day and took driver's ed a few days a week. After both those things ended I went to space camp for two weeks. (I don't care how many times people call me a dork -- Space Camp rocked.)

The job at the BMW dealership was as a service advisor. I filled out an application, but I also knew a salesman there who recommended me. That was the best summer job I've ever had. It was something like 50 hours a week, but I learned an enormous amount, made very decent money, and cultivated some business relationships that I still have today.

(Good bye post number 1111, hello post number 1112.)

I've worked at dealerships since I was 17, and usually anything that's higher end won't have you do too much, especially if you're under 18.

But you can apply to a Ford, Chevy, Toyota dealership etc. and I'm sure they can find something for you somewhere.

I got 'em!

Today after school I headed strait for Jackson road where all the dealerships are and picked up four applictions: Suburu, Toyota, Mitsubishi, and Acura. After trudging through the snow getting these things I realized they were all the same. This is nice, however, becuase I only need to fill out one, and copy it a few times.

Descion time. Handwritten? Typewriter? Or scan into the computer and print out the filled in version?

This is awesome!

Alright - today I just turned in my first 3 applications!

It was pretty disappointing, how carsalespeople will treat you like crap if you're not interested in buying a car... but that's ok!

I turned one into honda, one into nissan mitsu and huyndai, and one into suburu and toyota. Apparently dealerships will often share service departments.

It was interesting.. the guy at suburu quickly interviewed me, only to tell me he had no spots open... how's that work!?!?! Eh, whatever, it was a grand expiriace.

Honda/Acura dealers here require you to be 18 and have a clean license.
