Volkswagens do have common problems, but VW of America has done a lot to resolve those problems.

Common problems you'll find are Check Engine lights (due to an O2 sensor freaking out), and other than an annoyance they cause no problems.

Another common problem is the COIL FAILURES, which VWoA has put recalls out for and you can get replaced free of charge, even before it occurs if your car still has the old coilpacks.

And the last most common problem is the cup holders breaking, and again there's a TSB for that and I've had mine replaced before, for free.

I have had no coil pack problems what so ever, and other than a check engine light sporadically going on and off and the time I broke my cupholder, my car has been absolutely flawless.

What you'll notice with VW's is they "feel" better than a Honda or Acura or whatever, they just feel better made.

But have no doubts, they are higher maintenance than your Integra was. Not saying they take a lot, or they break often or whatever, but you do have to be a little nicer to them than you were your Integra.

If you go around zipping at 7k all day long for 50,000 miles, you'll break your VW. Where as your Honda loved it.

I moved from the Integra to a VW, and I'm glad I did -- though I sometimes miss my Integra.

That said, you may want to wait and save your money for the new MKV (2005.5-2006) GTI. It's not quite as sexy looking as the GTI you looked at, but it's got a 2.0L T with a 200hp, 200ftlbs of torque (at 2500rpm!) engine, and the best suspension any GTI has ever had. The MKV Jetta on the other hand, is gross.

1.8t is easy to modify. But it really isn't that inspiring of a car. I can't name any VW that is.

I like some VW's but couldn't realistically spend money on one. They break too much and meh, nothing is really special about them I think.

My buddy's Jetta GLI with 8000 miles on it just broke his engine mount in half, not even beating on the car. Yeah, he's on his 2nd....it's broken once before.

well, i just wanted to say, i think im "off" the vw idea. i did some research and i would be spending more money for repairs than i would expect too. thanks for the input though guys.

So i think the next car will be a honda/acura car, just not too sure which yet. i wasnt planning to spend much, but now, im trying to see if i can reach a limit of approx 13,000. i know, i really want to find a teg, but, nothing is really "popping" to me. lets see whats i guess.
