one could say he is the reason why this season was so interesting... One might.

did you know in his setup, he still uses the brakes with his leg... prosthetic leg. But he still has to do the gas with this hand. Must make for some interesting corners where he has to brake downshift then get back on the gas in a split second.

Yes, ETCC rules state that the driver must use the brake with his foot. I saw a very cool special on the BMW he drives. Its incredible, I mean think of a track like Monza where you are going into the chicane at 150 clicks and you downshift into first while braking hard. I still can't believe how he does it, but I guess thats what makes him so great.

I didn't read that particular article but I did read about that test. I still think he is crazy for doing it. Now touring cars, that's a different story specially in a BMW h:

It wasn't a test, he was going at race speeds with hand controls. It was an incredible sight, when he was lifted into the car and strapped in and then he took off. People thought he would do a parade, but he had a mission to run those 13 laps like he would have had he been in the race.

Alex Z has said in various interviews that he does it for the love of the sport. Its not the money or the fame, he does it because he still loves driving. Its something like Paul Newman who at 81 years of age is still one of the fastest semi professional racers.

You missed my point of calling it a test. Of course he was going at full race speed. That's what he wanted to find out.

I would say AZ is not alone in doing it for the love and it's not unique in just motor sports. He is unique in his condition and his abilities even with his condition.

Sorry about the missed point.

I agree Alex Z is not alone, I saw a guy at the Cumberland, MD autox that had one arm and he was racing a RHD Lotus Esprit. I guess if you love doing something you will do it no matter what. If you get a chance read the book - Alex Zanardi: My Sweetest Victory : A Memoir of Racing Success, Adversity, and Courage.
