it's not like super taxing or anything, but we're expected to know all the periods, the basic bone structure, etc, within the first few weeks of class.

What I hate is English classes where people who are otherwise perfectly sociable refuse to say anything. It's like the prof asks for comments, and nobody has anything to say. Granted when this happens the prof is usually asking the type of questions which don't exactly inspire huge great discussions, but the questions are still at the very least able to be answered.
What ends up happening is I look around the room frantically, hoping SOMEONE will say something, and then if no one does then I just pipe up with something because I can't stand the awkward silence. Yeah, I'm that guy. I try my damndest not to say too much but then I still feel like, obligated to say something if nobody at all will step up to the plate.
What's weird though is in the class when this happened the most recently, I was the only one to pipe up for a few questions in a row, and then with less than 10 minutes till the end a whole buncha people started talking and having an actual discussion. I was like, where the hell were you people for the whole rest of the class so I wouldn't have had to make so many answers in a row?
