I see a lot of ugly new cars. That's my opinion.
He named a few good ones though.

Adrian Van Hooydonk is the designer, Chris Bangle is the head of BMW design and the guy who gives final approval.

Bangle was promoted to Director of Group Design just last year. The current design trend in BMW began with his team's redesign of the 7-series and 5-series...and there's no doubt that they carry the same styling cues today.

Dakar...are you sure Bangle designed the E36? He was hired by BMW in '92...doesn't sound like enough time for him to come up with a new design for the '92 E36.

Right, he was promoted recently. But...the person who designed both the 7- and 6-series is Van Hooydonk.

yes 100% yes he was hired in 92 by BMW GMBH but he was already working for BMW in the 80's

hmm i might have been off:

I found this list. Not sure how accurate it is but I see most are correct.

Joji Nagashima: E36 3 series, Z3, E39 5 series

Boyke Boyer: E38 7 series

Klaus Kapitza: E31 8 series

Geoff Velasco: X3 (Designworks)

Chris Chapman: X5 (Designworks)

Anders Warming: Z4 (Designworks)

Henrik Fisker: Z8 (now with Aston)

Kevin Rice: new 1 series

Erik Goplen: E46 3 series (Designworks/USA)

David Arcangeli: E60 5 series

and the guy you love to hate but don't know it. Former Designworks/USA chief:

Adrian Van Hooydonk: E61 6 series, E65 7 series.

Bangle was however working for BMW in the design department prior to his first big promotion in 92.

Edit-
I'll have to check my back issues of Roundel for the Bangle interviews.
