Your best bet will be to uninstall all instances of AOL.
Search your Registry for AOL and delete it all.
One of my clients had the same problem. Even though it only showed one folder for AOL in PRogram Files and in Add/Remove Programs. In fact he had 8 copies of AOL installed. I searched for "AOL " and deleted every instance of it.
Following that I reinstalled it and its been working fine ever since. ( That was like two weeks ago)
