The original iPod was a cool idea, and nobody really had a competing product when it came out.

The iPod Shuffle is pretty stupid without a screen. I have a little 128 MB thumbdrive MP3 player and I like the fact that it has a screen so I can adjust things and pick and choose from songs.

If I could afford a PowerBook I might snap one of those up. But for now I'll play with my overpriced-before-massive rebates Sony VAIO. :chuckles:

Works for me... I don't look at my ipod screen except to pick a playlist, and I always have the thing on shuffle. For $99, I'd rock one, if the Mac mini didn't look like such a good portable media center to me :-P

Exactly. Times change, gadgets get cheaper.

Although it does seem like even the smallest thumbdrive sized players have abandoned being actual thumbdrives and use USB cables. But so does the iPod Shuffle.

*edit*

Did a little searching, found some units with built in USB plugs.
