Automatics can be very useful. Almost every very very fast Supra(sub 11 seconds) is automatic, save for one or two.

I drove in the snow once and it sucked. The car wouldn't move and got stuck constantly. I wasn't talking about racing in the snow or whatever. I thought what you were referring to is that power is meaningless if you don't have the traction to get it to the ground, i.e packed snow with normal tires.
