Nintendo DS

I'll admit I play my GBA more than any other system I own. Except maybe PC. But the only reason I play it more is because I keep buying ports (or remakes) of games that came out for NES/SNES. I do like super mario 64, but I liked it on N64, and the only games worth buying on gamecube to me were the zeldas and metroids. Not even the one mario adventure game on there was worth a damn to me.
I'll be skipping the DS because I dislike how it functions. I'd rather have a psp to fool around with. I like things that have more than one function. Messaging on DS doesn't count as another function for me because no one I know has it or plans to buy it. Seems to me like messaging on DS is only good for nintendo's key demographic... kids. The kind that go to grade school and want to play on the DL or send notes.

Nintendo's Cons:

- if the game isn't made by nintendo, it's usually crap
it's going to come down to $$. if the DS can undercut the PSP by 50%, it'll keep pace no problem.

Have prices for the PSP been set yet? As far as I know they haven't, Sony made an announcement at this years CES but made no mention of the price.
I also have to disagree with some of your cons for the DS. I don't think the touch screen is pointless technology. It's possible that at the moment it seems as there is no use for it but i'm hoping that it will force developers to think outside the box, well, that and the inclusion of a second screen.
A lot of GBA games that aren't made by Nintendo aren't crap, but I guess it's a view that most people have.
Psst, for those still wanting to buy the DS, Amazon has it $200 though. Includes: System, Mario Game, and Case. Not that shabby.

it had the "Sony" name on it. everyone know's who Sony is and what they're about. We associate Sony with the finest consumer electronic goods ... what BMW is to the car industry.
it turned out that the 1st playstations were built like garbage. the track the laser would glide on easily warped, killing your $300 machine quickly. they went though 9 versions of the original PSX, V1 - 7 were notorious for this. that's almost 4 years of defective machines hitting the shelf. ever see anyone flip a PSX upside down to get it to work? it was because of the crappy parts used.
BMW is a great company, but every so often, they make a 318 ... which sticks in people's minds.

it's a pretty strong point of view. it's to the point where nintendo had to add mario, luigi, princess, and wario to NBA Street Volume 3 to make it sell. remember when Link appeared in Soul Calibur? Nintendo has to toss their 1st party characters into 3rd party games to get them off the store shelf.

It's a shame that Nintendo has gotten into a situation where they needed to whore out their characters in order to get third party games to sell, I guess the most recent example would be NBA Street, and also the DDR game that seems to be in development.
I still have faith that developers will come up with new and exciting games for all systems and not just the DS. I'm getting very tired of playing the same game over and over again.
I think the demographic for the DS has changed a little also, a few of my female friends love the system for some reason, however, all they play are the minigames.
