Default wireless connection probs at home....doh

add me to the list of people with wireless probs h:

i moved to a new place, and my only option is wireless. i havent had trouble connecting before, but today it just won't work. fyi, it's an unsecured network. in the past, i have also connected to my neighbor's unsecured network :rick:

what i'm using:
desktop with a USB wireless adapter
laptop with a cardbus adapter

basically, my wireless adapters can "see" the router, but can't connect to it. the networks are available, but i cant access them

any ideas?

thanks

:werd: The EXACT same thing is happening with my roommates' and mine.

Verizon came out and said that it's being read as working, yet, we can't get anything. She has a wireless modem from Verizon and a D-Link router and I have just the D-Link network card.

Did you choose to allow yourself to connect to it?

ok...ill try 192.168.1.1 when i get home..

i tried "ipconfig /all" - it listed some crap, but the main thing i noticed was that my wireless adapter was labeled as "disconnected" - but under USB properties, the adapter is working fine

Maybe the wireless network you're peeking at doesn't support DHCP reolution? Whenever I have set up a residential wireless network that is off my access, I turn off DHCP resolution and manually assign IPs, beyond just using a WEP key... That way I can keep the whole broadband-leech thing from destroying my browsing... is this a legit wireless point, or something you're attempting to... I don't wanna say hijack, so I'll say; borrow?

Make sure that you aren't trying to do something crazy like connect over 1394... I would right-click, disable any connections you don't plan to use. then I would double click the wireless connection and tell us what you see there exactly
