Default is my thermostat f'ed up?

for some reason my car has been running cold. yep, cold. seems like it takes forever to warm up, it doesnt reach the halfway mark like it used to, and sometimes when i drive on the freeway for a while i see the guage start to head downward so its even colder :wtf:

if its broken will just not work or will it act funny like mines is doing

thermostat is the easiest thing in the world to replace, on most cars that is. usually like 3 bolts and a little housing you have to pull off. pop the old one out, put in the new one with a new gasket and youre set.

and it's not really acting funny, if the thermostats stuck open then it'll just take forever to warm up, that's what the thermostat does, and highway speeds + wind on radiator = lowered temperature.

Hmmm...winter which means cooler temps outside would also mean longer warmup times. Then when you get on the freeway you are moving more of this cold air across the radiator which makes it cooler. Now last I checked this all would be enough reason for the symptoms you described.

Maybe I just have no clue or something but thats how it sounds to me:dunno:

i too think the tstat is stuck open. it shouldnt change that much even if it is cold (considering we're in california).

You're explaining the exact same thing that happened to me about a year ago, when I had a stuck thermostat
