wireless routers
When transfering a large file to my laptop (like copies of TV shows off my TV tuner card or a movie I've downloaded, 700ish megs) I usually take it downstairs and just hook the integrated 10/100 NIC into one of the ports on my router, otherwise it takes forever. The fastest broadband speed you'll ever see won't flood an 11b channel and I've actually opened a couple of big .avi files over the network and aside from a second or two of buffering when starting up or changing locations on the file, it streamed fine over the wireless.
