Question for all the IT workers
Ok so as we all know i lost my job last thursday. So on thursday i went and applied to some jobs on careerbuilder, monster, jobcircle, etc.
I came across a couple that i sent my resume to. None of them called me yet. I did receive a email from a lady that i went and met today. They are a contracting company that does contracting for companies looking for IT people focusing on the Help Desk field. They said the job pays $15.00 and i'll work from 9:00 - 6:30 Tue-Sat. Then another place called offering a job that they feel im suitable for as a Network Admin making the same amout of money.
My question is this. I know that you know as a human being you're going to need benefits. But what do you guys feel are the plus and minuses of working contract jobs where as working a job that is basically steady.
Im thinking about what i wanna do and i figured theres some well knowledge individuals on here that can lend me some advice.

My current job is not IT but it is a contract job.
thus I don't get benefits but I'm not worried since I have money in the bank. at the same time if you are out of money, then having a job that pays $15/hr but no benefit is wayyy better than having no job at all.

A contract job is a good way to get money if you need money asap. But, having a steady job in a field of interest with benefits and the chance for promotion is preferred. The more you go from job to job the worse it looks on your resume. Most companies look for someone with skill and what experience they have gained from prior jobs. If they see someone jumping job to job they may think you aren't sure of what you want to do. Remember all they see is your resume, so unless that has something worthwhile they might not call you for an interview.
I got health but no dental as a contract worker. More expensive than where I am now, too. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Some people are afraid to work without health insurance because of "what could happen" but I don't really care cause my parents live in town. :exnbp:

not true. this is what I was waiting for someone to say and it's usually said by someone with no real world working knowledge.
if you can explain why you had the different jobs and show what you learned at each job, then it's a huge benefit. it shows that you can adapt and learn things quickly.
this is especially true in the hightech/IT industry.
