What digital camera...
Would you buy for less then $400 (I'd like to stay closer to $300 though).
Please add on $40 for cameras that use 4 AA batteries because, well, I'll probably be spending that much for the charger and batteries.
GO (I have a few idears that I will post in a few minutes after I get more coffee and discuss things with the toaster).

fuji finepix have come a long way? they didn't seem to do much for anybody a year or so ago. I shall read some reviews and narrow down my choices

I think its the S series of the Finepix such as S7000 which is a very good camera can be had for around the 400 mark.

Um yeah there's a whole bunch of different kinds of cameras available in that price range. Do you want something super tiny that fits in your pocket? Something bigger with more manual features?

bought canon A85 from dell for my gf for less than $300. I think the total was $280ish.

Rick, I'm considering the A85 on amazon for $250 + the batteries and small case.
Or the Minolta Z3, but it's kind of expensive.
