I need to vent....
Ok so ive been working at the place im currently employed for about 3.5 years. Ive been in the same area of the store for the entire time. I know my shit back there, and more often then not am the one every one goes to with there questions. SO recently when a the sales leader position opened up I figured id put in for it. Well last week i had my interview. I felt it went well for the most parts, a couple of my answers had me going  but still a good interview. Well today I find out that I didnt get the job. The person who DID get the job is a new employee who knows nothing about the department, paperwork, people. So this whole deal has been like a slap to the face, and the only reason ive been given for my not getting the position thus far is "She (the one who got the job) interviewed well" so yea my day at work today sucked ass and this ends my rant

it's possible. I found out that was the reason why I wasn't hired over at the IT department when I interviewed there before I quit.

a lot of companies will hire outside the company for higher positions, and if they stay in the company they usually pick weaker individuals, or they only promote on a very small level.
i've been to several companies who did this (personal and others experience), and usually they don't function well at all, but oh well. if you want to get promoted, go to another company. otherwise get used to dealing with this a lot.
