Michelin put a lot of really crappy tires on Integras and Civics for years and years, that doesn't change the fact that the Pilot Sport PS2 is still an amazing tire.
You had one model of Pirelli tire which you haven't even mentioned the name of, and are using that experience to knock Pirelli's absolute top of the line tire.

I don't define a tire as crappy because it doesn't necessarily grip...as long as it makes up for it in tire longevity and ride. However, the pirellis I had didn't even muster that.

There are plenty of tires out there whose sole function is to serve as a piece of rubber between the rim and the ground, and not wear out for a long time. Every company makes tires like this. Experiencing no redeeming qualities out of this type of tire does not mean that every tire made by the same company is just as bad.
